Drybrook 1st XV Match Report

23rd September - Gloucestershire Premier League

Aretians nil Drybrook 27pts

Drybrook continued their winning streak by eventually overcoming a gutsy Aretians outfit in Bristol. It was not until midway through the second half that Drybrook got on top and when they did they scored some lovely tries but it was another close game until then.  Aretians started with the strong wind behind them but Drybrook’s forwards soon gained the upper hand and worked a position close to the home posts where Chris Thomas was successful with a penalty after 15minutes.  Drybrook were hungry for the ball but they made little headway against the wind until winger Carl Moore was put over in the corner on 25 minutes following a period of prolonged pressure.  Just before the interval Drybrook were pressing hard again but a cross kick to Moore was intercepted and Aretians almost went the length of the field before being bundled into touch.

The second half developed into a midfield battle with Drybrook constantly knocked out of their stride by the robust home defence.  With 20 minutes gone Drybrook hit a real purple patch and Moore grabbed his second try when he fielded an inch perfect cross kick from Julian Horrobin to race over for Thomas to convert.  Not to be outdone brother Craig Moore then grabbed a try when some great support play sucked in the defence to allow the flanker to bundle over near the posts with Thomas again adding the extra points.  Drybrook began to stretch the home defence and scored a fourth try when good exploitation of the blindside led to winger Carl Moore giving the inside pass to scrum half Danny Griffiths who touched down.  Drybrook could not add to their score but will feel satisfied with a comfortable victory that keeps them well up with the early pace setters in the league.
