Drybrook 1st XV Match Report
24th February - Gloucestershire Premier League
Drybrook 39pts Aretians 0pts

Despite a poor
first half performance Drybrook still managed to overwhelm one of the
form teams in the league with a vibrant second half display. The
first half was very frustrating with the only clear cut opportunity of
the first half coming after 10 minutes when Julian Horrobin made the
space down the blindside
of a scrum to put winger Jamie Roberts in for a try. The rest of
the half developed into a stop start affair with Drybrook guilty of a
number of handling errors as they tried to step up the pace. The
second half was very different with the home side really getting on top
with a number of slick handling moves that Aretians found difficulty in
containing.
The first score of the second half came from a Chris Thomas penalty after the visitor’s N0 8 was dismissed after first hanging on to the ball on the ground and then for lashing out when Drybrook attempted to take a quick tap. After this Drybrook were able to dictate the game and a try followed from flanker Craig Moore after an inside pass from Tom Treherne. Impressive second row John Duffin then scored under the Aretians posts after starting the move in his own half with Thomas easily converting. There was no let up from Drybrook as they continued to pressurise Aretians and flanker Pete Meek was next on the score sheet when he squeezed over under a pile of players. Thomas then added the extras to a Neil Morgan try after the N0 8 went over from a scrum close to the visitor’s line. Drybrook’s final score came from replacement Simon Rugman, back after a spell at BerryHill, who stepped inside the last man before finishing off with a trademark dive. Thomas converted to complete a good afternoon’s work for Drybrook.
