Drybrook 1st XV Match Report

3rd February - Gloucestershire Premier League

Old Colstonians 5pts   Drybrook 29pts

Drybrook put in one of their best performances of the season to overcome a significantly improved Colstonians outfit who had won by 100pts – nil the previous week.  The first 20 minutes were played in Drybrook’s half and the visitors did well to keep Colstonians out but eventually a corner try came following quick hands along the backs.  Drybrook’s first real foray came after 24 minutes when Chris Thomas was able to reduce the arrears with a penalty. From the kick off Drybrook almost scored again but Chris Rawlings was halted just short of the line. Following a quick tap penalty Julian Horrobin forced his way over through a pile of players to give Drybrook the lead and Thomas added the extras.

Drybrook’s forwards began to get on top and with second row John Duffin at the top of his form they kept the home side on the back foot  Eventually the pressure told and skipper Tom Reed was put in under the posts for Thomas to again add the extra points.  Colstonians were only kept out by some good tackling by Drybrook in the second half with Horrobin in particular putting in some big hits.  As the half wore on Drybrook’s forwards really began to take control and with 10 minutes remaining the visitors added another try. This time good linking involving Carl Moore, Neil Morgan and Chris Thomas created the space to put winger Tom Treherne over mid way out.  Thomas converted again and then in the last minute Drybrook crowned a good display with a fourth try. From a scrum close to the home line the ball was initially worked to the open side but Horrobin quickly spotted an overlap down the blind side and his long pass led to Treherne grabbing his second score.
