Drybrook got back to winning ways
with this comfortable victory over first time visitors Frampton
Cotterell.
The fierce wind made it difficult for
both teams but despite playing into it in the first half Drybrook
took the lead after 9 minutes. Good handling by the backs led to
Julian Horrobin, this time performing at fullback, entering the line
at pace and carving through the gap to touch down for a try.
Frampton Cottrell hit straight back
and poor tackling allowed them to outflank Drybrook for a converted
try to give them the lead.
Drybrook made plenty of handling
errors as they tried to get back in front but eventually they were
rewarded for their superior scrummaging when No 8 Neil Morgan scored
a pushover try. Outside half Luke Beard then added to
Drybrook’s lead with a penalty just before the interval.
Beard quickly added a penalty in the
second half and then despite losing Neil Morgan to the sin bin
Drybrook scored another try.
Horrobin moved up to No 8 when
Drybrook were awarded a scrum close to the visitor’s line and he
quickly created the space for winger Jamie Roberts to race over in
the corner Into the last quarter Frampton Cotterell began to
tire and after Drybrook again moved the ball wide winger Dave Payne
was able to step inside his man and beat the cover to the line for
Beard to add the extra points. Beard then created the next try
for Drybrook when his intelligent break led to the ball being moved
out to winger Jamie Roberts to score his second try. Drybrook
continued to pressurise and finished off with a try under the posts
from hooker Chris Thomas after some good support play that left the
visitors defence in tatters. Beard converted to emphasise
Drybrook’s superiority on the day.
