Painswick
12 pts Drybrook 34pts
Drybrook gained an
expected victory at struggling Painswick but were made to work hard at
times by a dogged home team. Playing up the slope Drybrook gained
the lead after a quarter of an hour when scrum half Scott Ward broke
from a maul and beat 2 defenders before touching down. Luke
Beard converted and he soon added the extras again when centre Chris
Rawlings scored after a good break from Ward.
Scott Ward was
proving to be a thorn in Painswick’s side and he scored again when he
received an inside pass from Jamie Roberts after Mark Weaver and Julian
Horrobin had combined to create the space. Beard converted again
and at this stage Drybrook looked to be coasting it but a lack of
concentration just before the interval let the home side in for a
converted try.
Four minutes into
the second half Beard kicked a penalty to increase Drybrook’s lead and
he was soon called on to add the extras again when No 8 Neil Morgan
crashed over following a sweeping attack down field. Drybrook
continued to move the ball about but Painswick started to disrupt their
rhythm and scored a second try when they intercepted in midfield before
racing clear. Luke Beard restored Drybrook’s advantage with
another penalty but from them on in the visitors were kept out by some
dogged defence despite creating numerous chances with some enterprising
play.
