Drybrook 1st XV Match Report

27th January - Gloucestershire Premier League

Drybrook 33pts  Painswick 5pts

Drybrook cruised to a comfortable victory over struggling Painswick to keep their place among the promotion candidates in the Gloucestershire Premier league.  Drybrook got off to a perfect start quickly forcing a scrum near the Painswick line that eventually led to scrum half Carl Moore nipping over for a try.   Aaron Ryder added the extras and he was soon called on again to convert a Craig Moore try after the flanker crossed following a forward charge that Painswick could not stop.  It looked like being a rout when skipper Tom Reed bundled over from a line out catch and drive with only 20 minutes gone.  Suddenly though Drybrook’s scoring dried up as a number of dropped passes disrupted their rhythm and Painswick started playing with more confidence

It was well into the second half when Craig Moore eventually increased Drybrook’s lead when he touched down following a lineout close to the visitor’s line.  Ryder converted and then the young stand off created a try out of nothing when he side stepped through the defence finishing off with a stylish dive near the Painswick posts.  That was as good as it got for Drybrook who could find no way through the Painswick defence as the game developed into a midfield stalemate.  Eventually Painswick worked a good position near Drybrook’s line and were rewarded with a try in the corner when Drybrook ran out of defenders.
