Drybrook 1st XV Match Report

17th March - Gloucestershire Premier League

 Drybrook 35pts  Whitehall 10 pts

A try hat trick from scrum half Carl Moore inspired Drybrook to a victory that took them back to the top of the table.  Moore looked particularly sharp and opened Drybrook’s account after 5 minutes when he nipped over from a scrum that was set up following a break from centre Simon Rugman.  More pressure from Drybrook eventually led to a try from Rugman who received the inside pass before touching down.  An injury to outside half Aaron Ryder led to him leaving the field and the consequent disruption unsettled Drybrook. They then gifted Whitehall a converted try when a comedy of errors led to several players being unable to secure the loose ball.  Drybrook’s reply was immediate and fullback Steve Skelton was able to round off a good move with a try in the corner.  Whitehall hit back with a penalty and almost drew level just before the interval with an interception try but that man Moore came to Drybrook’s rescue with a tremendous cover tackle.

Drybrook played much better in the second half and forced Whitehall to defend for long periods. They quickly increased their lead with a Chris Thomas penalty and then Moore got his second score when he touched down following a series of scrums in the corner.  Drybrook then grabbed a try out of nothing when flanker Craig Moore snaffled up the loose ball on half way before outpacing the cover and scoring near the posts for Thomas to easily add the extras.  It was a fitting finale when Carl Moore got over for his hat trick after Drybrook were able to stretch a tiring defence.  Though Moore was undoubtedly man of the match another player to impress was second row John Duffin who had another storming game for Drybrook.
