Lydney United 5pts Drybrook 6pts
A drop
goal from Aaron Ryder in the last 5 minutes
gave a much changed Drybrook team a welcome
victory at a wet and cold Regentsholme.
The
conditions underfoot were difficult but to
their credit both teams tried to play rugby
and it was somewhat surprising that scoring
was kept to a minimum.
Drybrook had the wind at their backs in the
first half and quickly took the lead through
an Aaron Ryder penalty.
Drybrook continued to play most of the game
in the Lydney half with solid set piece ball
a feature of their first half performance.
Good
handling from both teams was countered by
equally effective defence and there was no
further scoring in the first half.
Lydney
upped their game after the break and took
the lead after 10 minutes when they moved
the ball wide following a series of mauls
close to Drybrook’s line to score a try in
the corner.
Neither side could break through after this
but Drybrook eventually worked a position
deep in Lydney territory and Ryder was just
off target with a drop goal attempt.
With
the minutes ticking away Drybrook went close
on a couple of occasions but eventually the
ball was moved back to Ryder who sent over
the match winning drop goal from 30 metres.
Drybrook were content to play out the last
few minutes to secure a well earned victory.
