FRAMPTON
COTTERELL 3 –
DRYBROOK 25
After arriving
late at
Frampton’s
ground, Drybrook
kicked off their
latest
Gloucestershire
Premier League
game against a
team just one
place below them
in the table.
Early exchanges
were played
between the two
25 metre lines
with neither
side gaining the
upper hand.
After nine
minutes,
Drybrook found
themselves down
to 14 men for 10
minutes with
captain, John
Duffin,
sin-binned after
a minor
indiscretion in
a maul. During
this period
Drybrook’s
defence held
firm.
Once back to
full strength,
Drybrook started
to take control
and push forward
into attack and,
in the 26th
minute, from a
forward
onslaught on the
Frampton line,
Drybrook were
awarded a
penalty try
after a
defending player
came into the
maul from the
side, preventing
a certain try.
Aaron Ryder
kicked the
conversion.
Drybrook were
now dictating
play and, from a
scrum 40 metres
out and 10
metres in from
touch, a
back-row move
saw quick ball
to winger, Jamie
Roberts, who
sped up the
blind-side,
beating several
defenders to
cross the line
and touch down
near the corner.
The conversion
was missed but
Drybrook
completed the
first half
leading 12
points to nil.
The second half
commenced with
Drybrook
continuing to
dominate with
strong runs from
forwards and
backs alike.
Around the 10
minute mark,
Frampton gained
points from a
penalty but
Drybrook’s Aaron
Ryder cancelled
this out by
kicking a
penalty for
Drybrook. Play
continued with
Drybrook willing
to run the ball
at every
opportunity and
stifling out the
few attacks by
their opposition
by the
excellent,
intelligent
kicking from
outside-half,
Ryder, who had,
possibly, his
best game so far
for Drybrook.
10 minutes from
time, Ryder was
high tackled
and, whilst he
was receiving
treatment from
Drybrook’s
Medic, Chris
Thomas kicked
the resulting
penalty from in
front of the
posts. 5 minutes
later, a
bulldozing run
from Man of the
Match, Neil
Morgan, saw him
break into the
Frampton 22 with
support in
abundance and,
eventually, the
ball ended up in
the hands of
winger, Dave
Hartwell, who
crossed under
the posts to
give Ryder an
easy conversion
and Drybrook a
well-won 25-3
victory.
Special mention
must be made of
Drybrook’s Aaron
Ryder, Carl
Moore, Liam
Jackson and
Danny Price,
four youngsters
with bright
futures.
