Drybrook 1st XV Match Report
Lydney United nil Drybrook 3pts (Match abandoned 28minutes)
Played under the Regensholme floodlights on Friday evening this game was halted
when a serious looking neck injury to Drybrook centre Simon Rugman caused the
game to be held up for a long period. Eventually the decision was made to
abandon the game which was a great pity as it was shaping up to be a good
contest but the decision was the right one given the length of the delay and the
necessary caution taken to remove the player to hospital. Lydney made all the
early running and kicked a number of penalties to the corner in an effort to get
over the Drybrook line. Sterling defensive work kept the home side out but it
took Drybrook nearly 15 minutes to break out of their own half. When they did
Lydney were penalised at a ruck and Aaron Ryder stepped up to put Drybrook ahead
with a well struck penalty. After this score the play became concentrated near
the half way line and it was here that Rugman sustained his injury trying to
halt a Lydney forward surge. Fortunately the injury did not prove to be as
serious as first thought and the player was discharged from hospital later in
the evening.
