Drybrook Rugby
Gloucestershire Premier
League
Drybrook 9pts North Bristol 11pts
Drybrook were just edged out of it in this very close encounter at the Mannings
by a well organised and committed North Bristol outfit.
The start of the match was ill tempered with a number of off the ball skirmishes
but eventually the teams settled down to play rugby.
After 10 minutes the visitors went ahead with a penalty following an offence at
the line out and minutes later added a simple try to increase the lead.
Drybrook’s blindside defence from a scrum was completely absent and the North
Bristol No 8 took advantage to stroll over the line.
This stung Drybrook into action and for a long period they were camped near the
visitor’s line. Hooker Chris Thomas looked to have bundled over for a score but
the referee was unsighted
The pressure finally told and after 30 minutes Thomas opened Drybrook’s account
with a penalty.
Drybrook started the second half in similar fashion and Thomas was able to add a
second penalty after 5 minutes.
Continued pressure then gave Thomas the opportunity to put his side in the lead
for the first time and he made no mistake with a penalty in front of the
visitor’s posts.
North Bristol then came back strongly with a number of powerful forward drives
that Drybrook found difficult to deal with.
Eventually they were awarded a penalty within kicking range and they regained
the lead with a penalty with 15 minutes remaining.
Drybrook could not get themselves back into a position to challenge the North
Bristol line and the visitors were able to play out the game hanging on to their
slender advantage.
