Drybrook 1st XV Match Report
Gloucestershire Premier
League
North Bristol 24pts Drybrook 5pts
Drybrook faced the slope in the first half of this
match and quickly fell behind to a try when a missed tackle let the home side
in. A few minutes later second placed North Bristol added a penalty to go 8pts –
nil up but then Drybrook improved and got into the game. A controversial
incident then occurred when Drybrook No 8 Neil Morgan went over for what looked
a try only to have it disallowed by a very late flag for a foot in touch, a
decision hotly disputed by both players and spectators. Drybrook let their anger
get the better of them by continuing to argue with the referee and it came as no
surprise when hooker Chris Thomas was sent to the sin bin. Instead of learning
the lesson Drybrook’s lack of discipline continued and North Bristol took full
advantage to add 2 more penalties to lead at the break by 14pts –nil. Drybrook’s
general play in the first half was poor but they improved after the break and
competed well. They could not stop North Bristol adding yet another penalty but
soon got on the score sheet themselves when a lot of pressure on the home line
resulted in Danny Price going over for a try. Drybrook won a lot of possession
in the second half and continued to press but the home defence held firm.
Drybrook rang the changes in the last quarter but with a couple of minutes to go
the home team exploited some weak blind side defence to cross in the corner for
a try and the winger rounded off under the posts to make the conversion a
formality.
