Cirencester 3pts
Drybrook 10pts
Drybrook got
back to winning
ways with this
well earned
victory at a wet
and windy
Cirencester.
Playing up the
slope in the
first half
Drybrook had a
considerable
wind advantage
and played most
of the half on
the attack.
Cirencester
defended
manfully but
Drybrook began
to run out of
ideas as their
play became all
too predictable
and the home
team’s
confidence began
to grow.
Drybrook were
awarded 4
kickable
penalties in the
first half, two
of them
extremely close
to the posts,
but for some
reason decided
to run 3 of them
only to find the
home defence
were easily able
to keep them
out.
Finally Drybrook
did take a shot
at goal just
before the
interval but the
kick drifted
wide to leave
the score locked
at nil – nil.
At the start of
the second half
Cirencester were
awarded a
penalty and they
had no
hesitation in
taking the
points on offer
to open the
scoring.
This at last
made Drybrook
come to their
senses and they
began to play
the conditions
much better with
the forwards
combining well
with a series of
drives to keep
Cirencester on
the back foot.
Eventually
flanker Craig
Moore wriggled
out of a couple
of tackles close
to the line to
cross for the
games first try.
Aaron Ryder was
unlucky to see
his conversion
attempt bounce
back off the bar
but Drybrook
were now getting
on top and
Cirencester were
forced to defend
for long
periods.
Midway through
the half
Drybrook’s
forwards again
drove to within
metres of the
home line and
winger Jamie
Roberts emerged
from under a
pile of players
to claim a try.
Drybrook played
out the
remainder of the
game well
against the
strong wind and
were deserved
victors in the
end.
