Introductory and Welcome Letter from Mini/Junior Section Chairperson, Dave Auker - Howlett

Chairperson update

.
As the season is winding up I felt I had to put out an update for the section.
The season has had a lot of disruptions with the bad weather which started in November and it has hampered playing and training for all age groups up to the end of February. Club volunteers have had a hard time organizing the teams and are to be commended for all their hard work and dedication.
There has been some disquiet amongst some parents and they have voiced their opinions to some coaches about disorganization and lack of communication and have spoken to coaches and some volunteers in a somewhat ungrateful way.
I would like to point out that everyone involved in running the section does it as a volunteer and receive no financial incentive to be an officer, a coach, a caterer, a team manager or any other volunteer position.
Drybrook RFC Mini and Junior Section have always provided a low cost community and family friendly service, which depends on volunteers to run.
My advice to those parents who feel that there are problems , is to think how you can help so these problems can be overcome, by getting involved by offering to help a coach by filling up water bottles, ringing around parents, helping to collect balls in or think about coaching yourselves. You could offer to sell raffle tickets, fund raise, become a committee officer. Also you could offer to help out serving food in the kitchen and share the workload with the catering team who are always serving when their children are playing and cant watch them.
This will be my last season as Chairperson and in the time that I have volunteered I have seen the section thrive and be successful through the hard work of all Drybrook RFCs’ family of helpers, to continue to provide a low cost service to the community we need more helpers. Please contact myself or approach a coach or volunteer if you can lend your talents.

Please enjoy the rest of the season, here are some dates for your diary:
Sunday 21st March 1 pm at the club, whole club RFU seal of approval meeting, come along and find out what it means for the club.
Wednesday 31st March 8pm Mini/Junior Committee meeting at Drybrook RFC clubhouse
Sunday 23rd May 12.30pm til 4.00pm End of season presentation. Trophies and medal presentations for all age groups.

Here come the Girls!
.
Drybrook RFC girls are going from strength to strength. They are increasing in numbers and also in their skills and ability. Last year the girls team was struggling for numbers and were down to about 5 or 6 players, but now they have a squad of 20.
The girls have played a few games so far this season and week on week they are improving. They are displaying qualities and skills that will make them a side to be reckoned with in the future.
.
Iinterested in joining Drybrook Girls Section?
Girls from year 6 to year 10 are welcome.

Club member Neill Ricketts has set up a Facebook site for the Mini Junior Section.

There is one general page with Mini Junior Section information, open to all, and then each team has their own page: access is available only to that team’s players and their parents/guardians.
News about training and matches can be distributed speedily to the entire team so coaches having to phone around for hours. Players can can communicate within a closed network, and match reports and photos can be seen and downloaded.

Anyone without internet access please tell your coach so he/she can keep in phone contact instead. If you have internet access but are not computer-literate, I’m sure that your children will show you how to set a Facebook account. Failing that, ask Neill.
