30th April - Combination Minor Cup Final
Drybrook Extras 29
pts   Westbury II 9pts

Drybrook retained the Forest Minor cup at Bream’s High Street ground with a convincing display against a useful Westbury outfit.  Drybrook did most of the early running but Westbury’s better organisation meant that neither side was able to make much headway. The stalemate was broken mid way through the first half when Westbury’s stand off Wood opened the scoring with a penalty.  Almost immediately Drybrook snatched the lead when centre Jamie Roberts snaffled the loose ball and then went on a weaving run that eventually led to a try under the posts for Gareth Roach to convert.  A second Wood penalty brought Westbury back to within one point but there was no further scoring in the first half.

Straight from the restart Drybrook’s Dale Critchley put in a storming run that took him in sight of the Westbury line but when a supporting player was blatantly taken out Roach made no mistake with the penalty  The introduction of old war-horse Chris Treherne paid dividends after 20 minutes when he took a quick tap penalty to crash over for a try under a pile of players with Roach again adding the extras.  Although Wood added another penalty for Westbury, Drybrook began to get on top and scored again when Roach was put clear for a try that he again converted.  At the death Critchley powered over for Drybrook’s 4th try to seal his team’s victory.

Drybrook Extras 48
pts   Cindeford Stags 0pts

A try hat trick from winger Tony Hussey inspired Drybrook’s third string to an emphatic victory over a hard pressed Cinderford outfit.  Fullback Gareth Roach opened the scoring with an early penalty and then ran in a long range try that he converted himself to put Drybrook 9pts - nil ahead.  Despite dominating possession Drybrook only added one more try in the first half when flanker Dean Large scooped up a stray lineout ball before racing clear to score. Roach again added the extra points.

Cinderford had their best spell at the start of the second half keeping Drybrook under pressure but they were unable to open their account.  With 20 minutes remaining Drybrook suddenly sprang into life when Roach again raced in following a quickly taken tap penalty.  Drybrook’s backs then took advantage of a tiring Cinderford defence and Hussey raced in for 2 tries in quick succession before Chris Morgan was put clear on the other wing to touch down under the posts.  Hussey completed his hat trick after another delightful backs move and Roach converted to give himself a personal tally of 23 points for the match.
