Drybrook RFC Mini Junior Section Festival Day, Sunday 3rd September 2006

The weather turned fine on Sunday for a very successful Festival Day, staged to start Drybrook RFC Mini Junior Section’s new season with a bang. With this in mind Bath, England and Lions lock Danny Grewcock was asked to come along and represent the supporting charity, Access Sport.Access Sport is a relatively new organisation, which uses central government funds to enable children and teenagers to participate in grass-roots sporting activities through existing clubs, thereby increasing their fitness and helping them have fun while developing personal and team skills.
Drybrook Mini Junior Section has had its
coveted Seal of Approval renewed by the RFU for the third year, which helps it
qualify for funding. On the day Access Sport also provided goody bags for all
attendees and various signed ball
s
and shirts for the raffle. Danny also provided a signed Bath shirt.
All teams from Under 7s to U15s and Under 14/17 Girls registered new players on the day and players old and new enjoyed a good training session. Danny Grewcock spent a good amount of time with every team, getting stuck into various aspects of training, offering useful tips and answering questions.
Danny had scored two tries against Gloucester the day before, so didn’t get too much stick about Bath’s 24-19 defeat. In fact he impressed children and adults alike with his friendly patience and excellent advice: a real ambassador for the sport.
At the end of the morning he presented a cheque for £2000 from Access Sport to Drybrook’s Mini Junior Section chairperson, Dave Auker-Howlett, as the first part of their two-year funding arrangement. Dave thanked Danny for his help on the day and Access Sport for their support; especially promotions volunteer Rachel Harris for her invaluable organisational skills in making it such an enjoyable day.
Drybrook Mini Junior Section is going from strength to strength but needs another coach for their Girls teams and still welcomes new players from U7s to U15s (both sexes) and U17 Girls. For more information ring Dave Auker-Howlett on 01594 543103.
